Bernardo “Bernardinho” Rezende, a renowned figure in the world of volleyball, has been appointed as the head coach of Brazil’s Men’s National Volleyball Team for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics. This marks his return to the helm after leaving the team following their gold medal victory at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Bernardinho’s remarkable career includes leading Brazil to Olympic gold in both the 2004 Athens and 2016 Rio games. His tenure as coach of the French national team, albeit brief from April 2021 to March 2022, was also notable. He stepped down from this role to be closer to his family.
The decision for Bernardinho to retake the position comes after Renan Dal Zotto, the previous coach, resigned following the team’s qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Dal Zotto cited health and family reasons for his departure. Bernardinho, in addition to coaching Brazil’s Men’s team, will continue his role as coach of Sesc Flamengo in the women’s Superliga and as the technical coordinator for Brazil’s men’s volleyball teams, overseeing their preparation for the 2024, 2028, and 2032 Olympics.
Radamés Lattari, the president of the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV), expressed enthusiasm for having a professional of Bernardinho’s caliber and history back in the fold. Bernardinho’s experience and technical expertise are seen as invaluable assets for the team as they prepare for the Paris Olympics.
