Volleyball’s New Era: FIVB’s Game-Changing Strategy!

The FIVB (Fédération Internationale de Volleyball) Volleyball Empowerment program, since its inception in 2021, has been a transformative initiative in the world of volleyball and beach volleyball. With a significant investment of around CHF 24 million since 2017, this program has been instrumental in elevating the sport to new heights globally.

The program, initially launched as an evolution of the Projects Platform, aims to assist athletes, national teams, and National Federations in reaching their full potential and inspiring a new generation of players and fans. The focus of the program is on coach support, volleyball equipment, and knowledge transfer. Up until now, the Volleyball Empowerment program has successfully funded 846 projects across 195 countries, encompassing 344 coach support projects, 417 equipment projects, and 85 knowledge transfer programs.

One of the key features of the program is the continuous open window for National Federations to submit their projects. The 2023-2024 Volleyball Empowerment cycle is currently in its third application window, with a fourth window expected to open from February to April 2024. This structure facilitates the ongoing development and approval of projects aimed at enhancing the sport.

Dr. Ary S. Graça F°, the President of FIVB, has emphasized the organization’s commitment to reinvesting sport-generated revenue back into the sport. This approach is at the core of the Volleyball Empowerment program. The program’s impact is evident in the enhanced performances, more competitive playing fields, and increased professionalism of National Federations. Furthermore, it has been influential in the rising success of national volleyball and beach volleyball teams, with many beneficiaries of the program achieving significant accolades.

Moreover, the program forms a part of Dr. Graça’s Nucleus Plan and consists of two key areas of support: targeted support and application-based development support. National Federations are required to complete a dedicated survey to be considered for these support areas, detailing their organization’s structure, vision, and goals.

As the program progresses, it continues to set new records in terms of approved projects and invested funds. For instance, the 2021-2022 application cycle saw a significant number of projects approved across various countries, reflecting the upward trajectory and commitment of the FIVB to elevate volleyball on a global scale.

In summary, the FIVB’s Volleyball Empowerment program is a groundbreaking initiative that has been instrumental in the development and popularization of volleyball and beach volleyball worldwide. Its focus on empowering National Federations and providing necessary resources is a testament to FIVB’s commitment to the sport’s growth and sustainability.
